What a fantastic day we had at Iandra Castle, I had never even heard of it before but lucky I saw an advertisement in the Cowra Guardian for an open day. Great Castle, beautiful gardens. Leadlight windows outstanding, period furniture, a real glimpse into early Australian history. We had a great picnic on the grounds.

I have lived of my life and hadn’t ever been to Iandra until today and I’m glad to say that it was definitely worth the visit. It is a beautiful old building with so many rooms which have great insight into the how the Greene family lived all those years ago. The grounds are extremely neat and tidy and are the perfect spot for a picnic.

Visiting Iandra is like taking a step back in time. The property is a little hard to find, especially when travelling form Young. But Iandra is a surprise in so many ways. The location , the beautiful grounds and the imposing presence of the actual buildings are impressive. The story accompanying the castle is enlightening, the actual tour of the house is revealing and the stables are an architectural delight. Worth a visit.

Amazing place to visit. A short drive from Young NSW. Only open for viewing a few times a year. Truly worth it to add it to your to do calendar. Take a picnic lunch with you to enjoy in the ambience of the majestic gardens while your there. I can’t wait for our next visit.

George Green was a forward thinker! Ensuites and ‘walk in robes’ for every bed room, electricity, flushing toilets when these were only ideas to most Australians. Indicator of a time when our rural community was prosperous. This is our Australian history and heritage.
